Studio Workshop: 2

For this workshop we where asked to bring in examples for packaging and branding that we Liked, i not only selected items that i felt where highly effective, Also pieces that is see and interact with with every day,

We then got together in a group of 6 and put our products together, We categorised the products into sections that represented what we classed as: designs that worked well, average design and poor design:

These classifications where judged on the:
quality of printing
stock
innovative idea

The image below displays the products separated into categories at the top end of the image we have placed the higher quality products based on our opinions as a group, Below this the products that we felt where of average quality, this was by far the greatest pile of items this showed me that on average most of the design we find around us is only of an average standard. From there we then go down to the products that we as a group felt where of poor quality.

We found that the higher quality products where of very minimalist designs i feel that this does not over power the viewer, the minimalist feel leaves the viewer wanting more in my opinion, i feel that this works effectively. We also found that the products where printed on a much higher class of stock i feel personally that this has a huge effect on the quality of the design as it is something you can really interact with i found that if the product feels nice and is a nice weight the product is a much is much more effective. In combination with this the colour selection also has a massive effect the package designs used foiling this represents high quality making the viewer feel like there treating there self

The Average Product was a difficult one as there where some that we felt could have been in either of the other categories, however some of the key thing we found with the average products was that the designs have started to become a little more crowded with text and imagery, and the print quality and stock are also starting to lack in quality.

The lower quality products where printed on poor stock and felt really tacky, the aesthetics of the packages where very over crowded and the designs began to become over crowded, the colour choices where very bright in my opinion this is in desperation to grab attention, however i feel this fails miserably instead the design over powers the viewer we found this was very common between the products that where mass produced on a cheap budget

The high quality products shown above all have a minimalist approach but use high quality print methods for example foiling, i believe this gives the design a much more expensive feel this in turn makes the buyer feel like they are treating themself.
